Delft is one of the most popular and recognisable of the traditional styles of tile painting. Originating from Delft in Holland, the Dutch tile painters were trying to immitate the Chinese blue porcelain being imported in the 17th C. Our approach is to try to capture the feeling of the traditional work, but also to be adaptable--using client's own designs. For example, in one case we used Scottish landscape and figures in a Delft style. The picture on the right was adapted from a smaller 18th C original.
The tiles we use are all hand made, normally 5"x 5" (12.5 cm). The white background glaze varies slightly in shade which gives a pleasing and authentic antique Delft look.
